On the back of the white Bizen pedestal, there's a scarlet hi-tasuki pattern, and the halo of flames (kaen-kohai)—typically a flaming backdrop behind Buddhist statues—forms the base, representing Fudo Myoo burning away worldly desires and evil. This is now presented as an "incense holder." Sesame seeds also adorn the base, and instead of the treasure sword that Fudo Myoo usually holds in his right hand, it's designed to hold "incense." By burning incense in a familiar setting, you can purify impurities, cleanse the room with fragrance, and unify your mind—it's a feeling that will make you sit up straight.
